About
Azza Eissa is a Clinician Scholar at the University of Toronto Department of Family & Community Medicine. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario, followed by a direct PhD degree in Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology, Medical school and Family Medicine residency at the University of Toronto (UofT).
She is supervised by Dr. Andrew Pinto at the Upstream Lab while completing a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology & Healthcare Research at the UofT Institute of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation (IHPME). Her MSc is supported by the CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship, Ontario Graduate Scholarship, IHPME opportunity scholarship, and Black Research Network ignite grant. It focuses on utilizing self-reported health equity data linked to electronic medical records to examine racial disparities and factors associated with inadequate diabetes screening in a large primary care setting. She utilizes various approaches to examine disparities in diabetes screening and care with a health equity lens.
Azza’s unique background and research interests lie at the crossroads of patient-oriented and community-based participatory research, health equity, Black heath matters, and knowledge translation through journalistic and academic writing.
