Dr. Abdalla Sheikh is a Senior Research Associate at Upstream Lab, specializing in infectious diseases and immune responses. He directs fundamental scientific research in PREPARED, which aims to enhance pandemic preparedness through the development of a national bio-banking strategy and the study of acute respiratory infections. His work contributes to strengthening Canada’s ability to respond to future public health challenges by advancing diagnostics, therapeutics, and surveillance strategies.
Dr. Sheikh holds a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from The University of British Columbia and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His research background includes airway infection and immunity, chronic viral infections, and tumor immune responses.
