About

Zhenxiao is an MSc student in Health Systems Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. He also works as a Research Analyst at University Health Network, where he develops and evaluates large language models to identify social determinants of health from unstructured electronic health record data and inform integrated care research for patients with complex needs.

His MSc thesis focuses specifically on using natural language processing and large language models to grade the severity of communication barriers, including limited health literacy and language barriers, in inpatient clinical notes. His research interests include clinical natural language processing, precision public health, and the use of AI to advance equity and patient experience during hospital-to-home transitions. Outside of research, he enjoys playing pickleball.
