About

Precarious employment has numerous negative consequences for workers’ health, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To support the efforts to organize workers and advocate for better conditions, the Upstream Lab is studying cases of workers’ organizing to determine factors for success, as well as common challenges. The focus is on jurisdictions similar to Ontario: higher-income, and predominantly English speaking.

Impact

  • Provide evidence on barriers and facilitators to workers’ organizing to support advocacy coalitions – including the Empower PSW Network
  • Contribute to the emerging body of evidence around strategies to address the challenges posed by precarious work
