About
Corey Bernard is the Director of Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Anti-Racism at Ontario Health. With many years of experience across multiple levels of Ontario’s health system, Corey has led the integration of equity-focused strategies in organizations such as the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), Health Quality Ontario, North York General Hospital, and various community hospital settings.
Corey is a strong advocate for community-based engagement and is committed to advancing equity and justice in health care. He led the development of Ontario’s first Black Health Plan, a roadmap for creating equitable health conditions for Black populations. He also co-authored the Engagement, Governance, Access, and Protection (EGAP) Framework, which provides guidance on the ethical collection, management, and use of race-based data from Black populations.
Corey holds a Master of Health Science in Health Administration from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health. He was also a recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Black Leadership in Public Health and Health Systems Award from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
Addressing health inequities requires a visionary, interconnected, and multi-pronged approach, firmly grounded in anti-racist and anti-colonial principles—with research playing a central role. I am encouraged by the increasing focus on research aimed at improving the social and material conditions of the individuals and communities facing the greatest health disparities in Canada
