About
Phase 1 of this study aims to engage farmers, agricultural workers, including migrant and seasonal workers, public health officials, and clinicians in co-designing practical, culturally appropriate, and implementable approaches to pandemic surveillance and containment in agricultural settings.
Guided by the Ottawa Citizen Engagement and Action Model (OCEAM), approximately 50 stakeholders will participate in semi-structured interviews exploring preparedness, surveillance, communication, testing, reporting, and outbreak response.
Findings will inform six co-design workshops in Ontario and British Columbia to develop the Farm Preparedness Toolbox, featuring training materials, multilingual educational resources, and practical workflows to strengthen pandemic preparedness in agricultural communities.
Impact
The findings from this study will provide foundational evidence to support future implementation and evaluation activities and strengthen Canada’s pandemic preparedness capacity in agricultural settings.
