Integrating public health and primary care at the core of the PHC approach

Implementing the Primary Health Care Approach: A Primer is a collaborative effort between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the World Health Organization (WHO) Special Programme on Primary Health Care. This policy textbook, developed in partnership with experts from around the globe, consolidates evidence on implementing Primary Health Care (PHC). The guide combines research, analysis and knowledge from various countries to answer the “how” of PHC and catalyze change in practice.

Dr. Andrew Pinto, Founder and Director of Upstream Lab, is the lead author of the primer’s chapter titled Integrating public health and primary care at the core of the PHC approach. Co-authored by Q. Jane Zhao, a PhD student at Upstream Lab, along with experts from the WHO, this chapter explains the value of integrating public health and primary care. Moreover, it highlights key areas of synergy between these two strands of health care delivery and offers essential considerations for successful integration.
