About
Dorothy Mary Senior is an experienced patient partner who has contributed to health research and patient engagement in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). With an almost 38-year career in the health care system and drawing from her personal experiences as a patient, Dorothy’s volunteering has given her the opportunity to be part of change by participating in the many opportunities as a patient advocate in health care and research with the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services and the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research Unit (SPOR) NL SUPPORT at Memorial University of NL. Dorothy’s involvement has seen her as part of a number of committees and initiatives that range from patient safety, accreditation, patient health record, emergency wait times, surgical wait times, Quality of Care NL, SPARK project (Screening for Poverty and Related Social Determinants), Social Prescribing, and the NL Health Accord. Dorothy received the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors of Distinction Award for her time and effort in health care.
