About

Upstream Lab scientist Dr. Saadia Sediqzadah has been awarded the 2025 Reasons for Hope grant.
Dr. Sediqzadah and her team have received $298,000 in funding for a 3-year research project to develop a patient decision aid to guide patients, family members and healthcare providers in the management of early phase psychosis. The target patient population is 14-35 year old people suffering from psychosis, which can include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and substance-induced psychosis.
The University of Toronto Department of Psychiatry’s Reasons for Hope Fund supports research studies that are designed to impact the trajectory and outcome of mental illness in adolescent and young adult populations, with a focus on prevention and early detection.
